Evanescence, "Everybody's Fool"
Perfect by nature,
icons of self indulgence,
The day is full of bright light, which comes down the sky through the
tall windows, all over the leaves of the bunches of red roses that
surround the Palace's main hall. The flowers shine like living jewels,
perfectly fit into the rich furnishings of the room. Outside, the snow
covers the Royal Gardens like a deep white blanket.
People line along the walls, leaving the center of the room empty,
waiting for the ceremony to start. All the aristocracy is here, all the
purest bloodlines came to pay homage to Her Majesty the Queen.
Today is her birthday. Due to that, all the citizens have to celebrate
her: from the poorest being to the richest one, all the people that
lives in her possessions must come to the City and adore her.
All the people love the Queen. They have to.
just what we all need
There's a small white room, far from the Royal Palace, that rests in
silence in the very center of this world. All is white and it could seem
that the City which shines oustide, under the snow, is only the pallid
reflection of this place.
The room is cold, there's no fire that can warm it.
A little boy is waiting, sits on a white bed. His eyes firmly look into
the big mirror hung on the wall, where another room appears.
So strange… the room in the mirror isn't white. And the figure on the
bed isn't him.
more lies about a world that
never was and never will be
Suddenly, the musicians start to play. The lamps in the main hall blaze
like diamonds, and all the people turn towards the big wooden doors on
the farther wall, which slowly start to open.
The room is filled with the excited whispering of a hundred voices.
"Her Majesty is coming! The Royal Family is coming!"
All the faces show a smile. Nobody would appear less delighted than now,
not with the Queens' bodyguards all around.
Oh, how we love Her Majesty. How we love the Royal Family of Wonderland,
and its power. How we love the ruler of this world…
have you no shame don't you see me
you know you've got everybody fooled
Two sides of the same place. A pair of golden eyes look into the depths
of the mirror, waiting. On the other side, a little girl is crying, in
silence, her eyes filled with tears.
Could the same pain be caused by two opposite feelings?
"I hate you. Your love was only a trick. You didn't love me, not a
single time… not me, not daddy… only yourself." A sigh.
"You liar!"
The golden eyes close for a moment.
"You liar… you should have died. I hate you, I hate you!"
The girl hides the face into her arms, sighing.
A subtle smile appears on the face of the little boy. His heart is so
full of love he can't feel anything else. He could kill for this love.
He looks the reflection on the mirror, and all the pain he feels
suddenly turns into cold rage.
She called her liar. That stupid child. "It's all your fault
if she went away…" he murmurs. "You stupid. You deserve to
suffer… more, much more than now." He puts a hand gently on his
chest, on the heart. "I'll make you suffer. This will be my endless
vengeance."
look here she comes now
bow down and stare in wonder
Surrounded by the sound of the orchestra, the Royal Family enter the
hall. Dressed in deep red, the Queen appears, slowly walking through the
open doors. The room resounds with congratulations and applauses.
She's offering her arm to a tall man, the only one who's not wearing the
traditional colors of the lineage. His hair is white, his clothes pure
black. He looks more elegant than all the other men in the room, and
he's surely the most powerful of them all.
People know who he is. Everyone know who he is… a king for a
king.
There's no need to show love towards him, even if it should be better to
do it. The Queen is the head, but Spades are her arms… and they knows
how to do their job very well.
oh how we love you
no flaws when you're pretending
The Royal Family slowly come into the hall. All the princes and
princesses are smiling, while the people in the room bow down and throw
roses to them. All but one.
This is not his place, this is not his role. He's not a prince anymore,
so why he has to walk with all the others, instead of be hidden in the
crowd, with his true family? Where's the true place for this little
white rose?
The girl who grabs his arm doesn't seem to care, she keeps smiling to
the common persons in the room, without addressing him. He could be a
servant, for what it cares. He'd really want to left his lady, turns
back and exits the room… but he can't. He'd ruin the party. He couldn't
care less of his Aunt, but he'd put him in trouble.
He fixes his hazel eyes on that black back and sighs. So close and so
far at the same time. The one he loves the most, near the one he hates
the most…
The guy rises his head and put a smile on his face. I'd have to. I'll
be perfect, just for him.
but now I know she
never was and never will be
"She's not my mother anymore," says the little girl, sits on
her bed.
"She's not only a mother for me," murmurs the boy,
cuddling the pain in his chest like an evil treasure.
"She can't rule over my life," thinks the prince, while he
walks through the crowd.
you don't know how you've betrayed me
and somehow you've got everybody fooled
Fairytales that weren't a gift, just a nightmare. A kiss to say
farewell, not "I love you". Deny your own name, reject the
life that should be, just for one person.
without the mask where will you hide
can't find yourself lost in your lie
The truth is never just one.
Lost in the darkness of her room, the little girl knows very well that
she hates her mother… just because she loved her too much, and still
do. Why did she prefer another life, instead of the one she could live
with her? She's can't be just a memory. She still lives, she still
smiles, she still loves… someone who's not me.
I know the truth now
I know who you are
and I don't love you anymore
Sits on his white bed - the one which wasn't just his - the
little boy sighs. He can remember every single thing, every single
sentence she said, when they were laying on it.
"I love you more than everyone else… you're my little heart
and we'll be together until the end of time." Then, why she
left him alone? Why she betrayed him? The world isn't the same,
now that you're gone. You haunt my life, my dreams, I can't sleep
anymore… please, tell me that you feel the same, too…
I can't hate you, mama… but you made me suffer, and I hate myself
because I can't forgive you.
it never was and never will be
you don't know how you've betrayed me
and somehow you've got everybody fooled
"Are you enjoying the party?" says a deep voice near his ear.
The little prince turns his back, with a surprised expression on his
face. "Boss…" he says, but the whitehaired man in front of
him shakes the head, making him stops. "You haven't replied to my
question."
The prince aims a quick glance over the man's shoulder. A laugh resounds
in the air. She's laughing, as usual. She took everything he loved from
him, with a vicious smile and a laugh.
Even him.
The man looks at him with his grey, cold eyes. "You should have
some fun, little prince," he says, "this is the second time I
see you cry… you should learn how to behave when you're in high
society." The prince opens his eyes wide. "I… what?"
The man gives him a slight smile, while he toys the white rose that
adorn his jacket's lapel. "I want to see a secretary, not a prince,
tomorrow at work," the man adds. "And be sure to smile… I
don't like pouty boys in my office," he says, before to turn his
back and slowly comes back to the Queen's side.
it never was and never will be
you're not real and you can't save me
somehow now you're everybody's fool...
